Windy Night In the Coffin
The walls of the mausoleum are thin enough that your screams can be heard from the outside, but you don’t know that, so you’ve stopped bothering to scream. You still breathe, but it’s only a habit. It’s 1830, but you don’t know that. It could be 1797, or it could be 1997. The years mean nothing to you now. You won’t see the light of day again until 1967, in another 137 years, but you don’t know that. For all you know you could be released tomorrow- but more likely, never. But on certain nights, you can hear the wind whipping through the trees and through the walls of the mausoleum. You imagine that in the place you once called home... what is it called... Collinwood... the wind can be heard too. You imagine that your sister... your sister, her name was... well, it doesn’t matter now. But you imagine she’d be frightened by the wind, and you would tell her a story to comfort her. A story about a soldier. The soldier in your stories is always Joshua, but you never told her that. Joshua... for a second, you swear you can remember his face. He could have killed you. He should have killed you while he had the chance. Perhaps he really loved you after all, the fool. You wonder if he’s still alive.
